App brings data together

Douglas Connect Risk Assessment

The safety assessment of chemicals is a complicated process. To reach meaningful conclusions, risk assessors must have access to all relevant knowledge and data in an efficient, standardized and harmonized manner. It’s a tall order. But DC Risk Assessment, a new web-based application from Douglas Connect, succeeds by integrating the approach used by OpenTox and other publicly accessible toxicology data sources and risk visualization tools.

Brings the data to you

Based on Douglas Connect’s experience in the OpenTox and OpenRiskNet projects, DC Risk Assessment uses Application Programing Interfaces (APIs) to collect and organize existing toxicology data and modelling tools from different sources. The application’s integrated web-based data explorer offers rich filtering and search functionalities. Currently available data sources include the EPA's in vitro ToxCast database and in vivo ToxRefDB database, and NIBIOHN's toxicogenomics Open TG-Gates database. Users can find data from these sources or manually input missing values. Additional data sources will be available in future releases, as well as the integration of modelling tools over harmonized APIs. Data is visually presented on a visualization matrix, based on a project developed by the Health and Environmental Sciences Institute (HESI)*, bringing together estimates of exposure and toxicity until clear conclusions on the safety or risk of a compound can be drawn.

Supports the workflow

DC Risk Assessment’s easy-to-use interface puts all relevant information, analytics and visualisation right on the screen. The user can easily record each step performed during assessment (e.g. write an outline, add multiple iterations, edit the information on selected compounds and their data, and write the conclusions). So, your risk assessment approach and conclusions are documented directly in the application.

Saves your work

All your assessments are stored and can be viewed or edited at any time.
